Frequently Asked Questions
What side should I wear my hat on?
This is a question that often comes up during appointments. Tradition states that 'a lady should wear her hat on the right'. This tradition is claimed to date back to when a gentleman accompanying a lady out walking would be on her left. This enabled her face to still be visible and conversation to be unhindered. Another tradition dates back to when knights wore swords and strapped them to their left, ready to draw with their right hand.
Most millinery today is still made with the embellishment placed to allow for the hat to be worn on the right. At the end of the day if you want to wear it on the left and it looks ok then go for it!
What happens if the hat becomes unavailable?
Should the hat you have booked to hire not be returned by a previous customer, or is returned damaged every effort will be made to find a replacement. If this is not successful I will refund your hire charge and apply a 50% discount to an alternative hat hire.
What happens if my hat gets damaged?
The biggest problem for hats is the weather, especially rain. If the weather is wet, please ensure that you stay under cover or use an umbrella to protect the hat from getting wet. Once you have finished wearing your hat replace it in the hat box provided and leave the lid off to let the air circulate.
Note: Long periods in very bright sunshine can also bleach the colour from the delicate sinamay straw that hats are made from.
Should the hat be returned beyond repair then 2 x hat hire cost will be charged.
How long is the hire period?
My normal hire period if for one week from collection, however I am flexible provided an extended period has been arranged.
Do I need to pay a deposit?

Hire prices range from £45 - £90 for the agreed hire period.
You can pay by cash, debit/credit card or bank transfer on the day of bookling.
